Cal Fire boosts firefighting capabilities with seven new aircrafts from U.S. Coast Guard

KRCR CHICO, Calif. — Cal Fire will be acquiring several new military aircrafts from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The National Defense Authorization Act includes the transfer of seven C-130 planes to help with wildfire suppression and search and rescue operations.

The planes will be prepositioned at locations throughout the state including Chico and the Sacramento area.

According to the California Forestry Association (Calforests), a single C-130 is equivalent to six S-2T airtankers which Cal Fire is currently using. That's equivalent to a boost in firefighting capability by 42 standard planes.
