Forest Products

Lumber, paper, even clothing (rayon) and nail polish: Every day the forest touches our lives, in an almost countless number of ways.

In fact, each Californian annually uses forest products equal in total volume to a tree 16 inches in diameter, standing 100 feet tall!

Construction lumber, furniture, linoleum, egg cartons, newspapers and magazines, medicines, cellophane, lubricants and maple syrup.

Soil amendments, chemicals, decorative bark, flooring, paneling, carpeting, office stationary, paper bags, milk cartons and cereal boxes.

Railroad ties, pier pilings, firewood, decking, disposable diapers. Paint--and paint remover.

All of us take from the forest, perhaps more than we realize. That's why it's important to recycle, and to consume wisely.

But should we feel guilty for using the forest in the many ways that we do? No, because wood is a fully renewable resource. California's forests are professional managed and among the most highly regulated in the world.

By practicing sustainable forestry, we can have the products we need and desire, while ensuring healthy and biologically diverse forest ecosystems. Forever.
