Our 2013 Annual Meeting was held in Napa last week with nearly 150 total participants. Our focus was on the significant opportunities provided by the adoption of AB 1492, both for our association and our entire industry.
We kicked-off our annual meeting with extensive committee discussions followed by a Welcome Reception, during which we rolled-out our new logo and new website with its new “calforests.org” name. Please visit the site and provide your feedback.
Panels of experts and government leaders addressed regulatory and multi-agency timber permit-related issues, communications and media relations, as well as addressing wildfire damages and potential regulatory improvements.
With the adoption of AB 1492, the results of the recent elections, and the state’s improving budget status, we had a cadre of speakers to address the changing political landscape with its opportunities and challenges for our industry. Our luncheon speaker was the Governor’s Appointments Secretary Mona Pasquil, who provided a passionate challenge to participate in government service via the nearly 2,500 voluntary and other appointments being made by the governor.
Then, following our second day of meetings on Thursday, we had our Annual Reception and Awards Dinner at beautiful Markham Vineyards Winery. Our keynote speaker was the Governor’s Executive Secretary for Legislation, Appointments and Policy Nancy McFadden. Among the awards presented included Legislator of the Year to Assemblyman Wes Chesbro.
Thank you to those from the California Forestry Association, elected and agency representatives, and other leaders who joined in lively discussion over key opportunities and challenges of California’s environmental and economic demands. We greatly appreciate your participation and input on important industry decisions as well as friendly discussions during our social events.
